Here at Olde Fields it takes a whole team of people with completely different backgrounds to bring the store together and make it the unique creative space it is.
This week I interviewed one of those individuals, Javan Richardson one of our photographers.
Keep reading to hear his story and see some of his amazing work!
Javan Richardson: Photographer
Tell us a little bit about yourself, what are some of your other hobbies besides photography?
Not a lot people know this but I love to write lyrics. I feel like it could be another passion besides photography that I can express myself easily. I want to make music sometime in the future and put it out there but it wouldn’t be too serious because I feel like photography is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Are you originally from Tallahassee? And are you currently going to school?
Yes, I am from Tallahassee and I am currently enrolled at Godby High School where I’m also dual enrolled at TCC.
How did you initially get into photography?
It was back in 8th grade and some of my friends were doing shoots just for fun and the pictures they take would honestly just take my breath away and that kinda sparked something in me. I started following photography accounts of kids my age from California, like Patrick Gray, Fiona O’Hanlan, Jack Newport and Luke Raymond. That’s what prompted me to buy my first camera and I’ve been taking pictures ever since.
What is your favorite camera to shoot with? Do you prefer film or digital?
My favorite camera to shoot with is the Canon 70d with the 50mm 1.8 lens. If I had to choose, I would pick film because it’s more spontaneous and you never know what you have until it develops so it makes me better at posing models and waiting for the right time to capture a moment.
What would you consider to be the aesthetic of most of your photo-shoots?
My aesthetic always changes and I think that makes the photographer I am today because I am able to express different stuff but make it my own. Lately I have been loving vintage looks and soon I’ll probably would want to go with a modern and moody aesthetic.
When shooting what do you look for in your shots? How do you get your models to pose so well?
When I am shooting, I always consider what’s the best lighting mostly. Also it depends on what I am shooting for so if it’s for a clothing company like Olde Fields, I would want to get the outfit mostly. I always get my inspiration to pose from other images on Instagram and magazines or what comes though my head at that very moment.
What have been some of your favorite shoots you have done?
One of my favorite shoots I have ever done was actually with Olde Fields back in September. Amanda Smith and I really clicked and the photos turned out better than I expected. Still some of my favorite are from that set. Also back early in 2016 for Valentine’s Day, I did a shoot with Sarah and Josh and couple photos are honestly so great to capture. I love it when I can feel the love just by looking at the photos.
Where are you hoping photography will take you in the future?
Hopefully I will be shooting for more clothing and brand companies while on the side shooting for some of my favorite artists like Blackbear, Pvris and Drumaq. Additionally, I want to travel more for my work. I’m planning on going to college but who knows, I would hope that I can make a steady income so I can travel as much as I want doing what I love. But “Dreams don’t work unless you do” as one of my favorite photographers Ron Dadon says all the time.
Stay tuned for the next entry of People Behind the Scenes as we reveal another one of the individuals that make our store so amazing.
Something big is happening on Gaines Street guys.
Something that will change Sundays as you know it.
What could this wonderful event be you ask?
The Gaines Street community has come together to create the most radical Sunday Fiesta to ever hit Tallahassee.
The first Souk will happen on January 29th at 11AM and run till 5PM!!
It will basically be a combination of all the things that make Sundays and Gaines Street awesome.
First of all....there will be
(unfortunately I cannot guarantee Ryan Goslings attendance.)
But as a close second there will be twelve local dining establishments serving brunch within the two block radius of Gaines Street.
Along with the most important meal of the week there be local vendors selling jewelry, clothes, and other crafts.
Lets face it guys shopping is always more fun after a few brunch mimosas.
To top it all of there will be LIVE MUSIC!
Like seriously forget Saturday nights I'm pumped for Sunday mornings. (okay afternoons who am I kidding)
The music will start off at the Wilbury at 2PM!
So prepare your best brunch outfits ladies and gentlemen.

It FRIDAY people...the holy grail of week days.
But not only is it Friday it's Friday the 13th!
For those of you who don't know Friday the 13th on Gaines street is a very special day,it's the day Euphoria Tattoos does 13$ tattoos!
Yes you read that correctly 13$
Not only are they about the same price as a chipotle bowl with all the fixins the tattoos are dope.
These Friday the 13th themed tattoos were available to the first 40 brave souls who waited in line this morning to get their affordable ink.
Unfortunately I showed up a little too late to get some ink of my own (the flower was calling my name).
It's rumored that this was Euphoria's final Friday the 13th tattoo event.
Hopefully this does not hold true because that sounds like a Nightmare on Gaines street.
Yes we are alive, yeswe survived finals, barely but we did it.
I hope everyone had a great winter break, but I know I'm happy to be back at work...especially with all the adorable new arrivals we have!
Our vintage selection has been especially out of this world since the Boss Lady Holly came back from her rad vacation to Colorado with all the goodies.
This velvet crop is amazing and has an open back making it perfect for any night out on the town!
Speaking of nights out on the town this shiny party dress is a must have! Unfortunantely the setting sun did not do it justice, but this dress will be the envy of any mermaid with all this shine. It paired perfectly with our metallic sunnies and gold purse.
This adorable dotty dress is on sale right now. *insert heart eyes* This one was one of my favorites, the sweater material up top gives the dress a very vintage feel and its so easy to dress up with a few bright accessories. So Betty Draper, I know.
This sweet flower dress came just in time for the warmer spring days we're having. We paired it with some layered necklaces and my favorite retro sunnies.
This leather skirt is so amazing guys, you don't understand. I paired it with this cute cotton tee but it would honeslty pair well with anything you try on. It's just one of those pieces you've gotta have*insert more heart eye emojis*. Also who doesn't love anything Napoleon Dynamite?
Finally we have this super soft lace up floral dress. I used a belt to give it a more relaxed look and added the fringe bag to mix it up a bit. *Pair with flask to complete look*
So come on in guys, get your back to school looks on point by mixing some of these great vintage pieces we have with some of our new pieces.
*Don't forget most outfits pair best with above flask*
