This week we interviewed the fabulous and sweet Amy the owner of Fox and Fields, one of the jewelry artists currently featured in the store! Keep scrolling and check her out!
Tell us a little about yourself Amy, how long have you been here in Tallahassee?
I have lived in Tallahassee for almost 25 years. My parents moved here when I was almost two and it has been home since. I graduated from Florida State back in 2013 and took some time off to travel. I am now a student at Savannah College of Art and Design studying graphic design (taking classes online right now). Many people think I am crazy for being here for so long – I probably will explore new “homes” eventually, but Tallahassee will always be home to me.
What are some of your hobbies besides your jewelry business?
I have a few hobbies that I enjoy to fill my time with: I love traveling, dabbling in photography, painting, drawing, crafting in general, reading a good book, eating delicious food, and spending time with good company.
Where did the name “Fox and Fields” come from?
Foxes are my favorite wild animal. I love their fire-y spirit and cleverness. They really are gentle creatures, but know how to pack a punch if they need to! I consider them my spirit animal so the “Fox” part was easy to come up with. The “Fields” part took a little longer. I knew I wanted the name to incorporate something from nature/landscape since I love the outdoors. I played around with words involving mountains, forests, and rivers but couldn’t think of a good name. One day, I was driving down the highway and passing all the beautiful fields and it hit me, “Fields. Fox & Fields”.
What inspired you to start Fox and Fields?
Fox & Fields was an idea I came up with January 2016. I wanted to pursue a creative path of work and since I am back in school I thought it would be fun to dabble in creating my own business so I could control my hours better [based on my class schedule] and still work while taking classes. I brainstormed on the idea all last summer and put all the pieces together to begin selling at my first market in August 2016. The website came a few months later and it is progressing from there! I can’t believe it has only been 6 months since Fox & Fields was born!
Where do you get your inspiration for the pieces you create?
Much of my inspiration comes from geometric designs and shapes – I love triangles and hexagons so a lot of my designs incorporate those shapes. Sometimes I will be working on one design and as I am piecing it together think of a totally new design and then change from there. I like to draw inspiration from nature as well and so a lot of my pieces are accented with natural beads, gemstones, and crystals which I love.
What do you see in the future for Fox and Fields and you?
I would love to see Fox & Fields continue to grow physically and creatively. I would love to begin working more with metalsmithing my own pieces (I am dabbling in that now) as well as making Fox & Fields a more recognized brand. I hope to have it featured in more stores in the area as well as travel to other states and markets as well.
Finally what is your favorite piece of jewelry you create?
Wow, that is a tough question! I love each piece I create for different reasons, but I would say right now my favorite pieces are my newer ones: the Calista and the Asteria since they are my first pieces created while experimenting with metal cutting. Another favorite piece is the Wander & Wonder necklace
( featured above) I love how boho chic it is!
